BD4U Returns Policy

1. Statutory Warranty Returns - Section A

The below is a copy and paste of the 2011 Office of Fair Trading recommended terms (Click-here to see the original document):

Refunds and returns
We are not required to provide a refund or replacement if you change your mind.
But you can choose a refund or exchange if an item has a major problem. This is when the item:

  • has a problem that would have stopped someone from buying the item if they had known about it
  • is unsafe
  • is significantly different from the sample or description
  • doesn’t do what we said it would, or what you asked for and can’t be easily fixed.

Alternatively, you can choose to keep the item and we will compensate you for any drop in value.
If the problem is not major, we will repair the item within a reasonable time. If it is not repaired in a reasonable time you can choose a refund or replacement.
Please keep your proof of purchase — e.g. your receipt.

The below notes are for example and explanation ONLY (these do not form part of any official policy):

Note from BD4U Computers - Regarding Major/Not Major Fault:
As of 01/07/2011 there was no official court ruling qualifying the difference between a "major" and a "not major" fault when it comes to computers (as laptops and desktops are made up of several individual components/parts). As a rule of thumb, we (BD4U) consider any part with a replacement value of under 25% of the system total to be "not major" as these items can be replaced quickly and easily resulting in a working product.

Example of Product Being Wrongly Described vs Wrongly Selected:
If a customer purchases a product like a universal home entertainment remote control to use with their TV, DVD, HiFi and reads on the packet/asks the salesperson for compatibility with Samsung TV's and Sony HiFi's (and the goods are sold on the basis that they are compatible) then when the customer arrives home they discover their HiFi is a Sanyo (rather than the Sony they thought it was) and if it turned out that the remote control is not compatible with Sanyo HiFi's this would be an example of a wrongly selected item and as such return would be at the discression of the retailer.

Using the same example as the above; if the customer selected the remote control to use with their Samsung TV and Sony HiFi, the remote was sold on the basis it was compatible and when the unit was tested it was discovered that the particular model of Samsung TV was not on the supported list (even though the customer had asked specifically about their make and model of TV) then this would be an example of goods wrongly described or doesn't do what the salesperson said it would do - meaning the customer would have grounds to request a full refund (or exchange if they prefered) of the full purchase price under statutory warranty.

2. Our Policy on Handling Returns Because Customer has Changed Their Mind and/or Any Non-Warranty/Statutory Reason for Return - Section B

State and federal law provides protection to consumers against poorly manufactured products (see Section A above).

Best Deal 4 U Computers is dedicated to customer service and ensuring customers only have products of the highest quality. As such Best Deal 4 U will always honour your rights regarding return of goods under statutory warranty (see Section A above), however if you wish to return goods because you have changed your mind (or for other reasons outside of your statutory rights), we will endeavour to assist you in line with the below policy:

  1. If you no longer require the equipment you have purchased (or your needs have changed since time of purchase) you may request return of goods for exchange or store credit (restocking fees may apply - see below).
  2. If you selected a product and then later found out that your needs are not met by said product and wish to exchange it because you wrongly selected (Note: if you asked for a particular feature that was not included in your item, or if your salesperson wrongly explained or misrepresented what the product would do, you may have grounds for a return/refund under the above "Section A" Statutory Warranty).

Please note; the above does not apply to any reason of return that is covered under the "Section A" statutory warranty information detailed above (Point 1).

3. What If I Change My Mind?

We are not legally obligated to accept returns or order cancellations* simply because a customer changes their mind. However we are aware that in the world of computing our customer's needs can change very quickly, so we have implemented a 7 day "piece of mind" policy. If you are not fully satisfied with a product simply return it in original condition and packaging and we will at your option...

  • *Exchange it for a stocked product or products of the same value
  • *Credit the price to you to go towards the purchase of an upgraded product of the same type
  • *Exchange it for a credit note for the purchase price of the product
  • Refund purchase price of the product minus the restocking costs listed on your invoice

The "piece of mind" policy does not apply to special order items not normally stocked by BD4U, shipping charges, labour charges, or the labour component of computer or laptop assembly. BD4U may make exceptions to this policy under special circumstances. Such circumstances should be explained to BD4U staff before placing your order, and any deviations from standard policy will be clearly reflected on your invoice.

( * Please Note: If an order is cancelled a restocking fee will likely apply and this will be subtracted from any refundable amount - restocking fees are typically anywhere from 10~25% of the order TOTAL. This restocking fee may also be subtracted from the credit applied to any of the above first three options as marked with " * " --- If the order/item is to be exchanged there may be restocking fees subtracted from the exchange value. --- Note: If the order/item was a special build and/or special order in item cancellation and/or exchange may not be possible.)

Should you have an order with us and wish to change or cancel the order; send an email to your sales representative detailing your request, this email will be replied to within a few business days detailing and quoting applicable restocking fees to order cancellation.

FYI: All payments taken by BD4U are taken under the condition of "deposit and part payment on order", please do not place a deposit until you are sure your order is as desired (as payments and deposits are not generally refundable - in line with the above details --- unless otherwise specified at the time of ordering).

4. What If I Want To Return A Product After More Than 7 Days (and reason for return is NOT under statutory warranty)?

If an item is being returned for a non-warranty issue (such as you have changed your mind and no longer require the equipment). It is at BD4U's discretion and we may accept returns of special order items and items returned after 7 days from purchase, but these returns will always involve a restocking fee. The value of the restocking fee will depend on the condition of the item, it's current market value, and how readily the item can be resold. Please speak to our sales staff for further details.

5. What Is a Restocking Fee?

BD4U may in some cases offer the return of goods or order cancellation where no valid refund criteria applies and charge/withhold an agreed dollar value as "Restocking-FEE". This "FEE" will be calculated by the sales-person/sales-manager to cover: 1. The depreciation of the goods, &/or 2. Price drops since time of purchase, &/or 3. Cost of labour provided, &/or 4. Loss of value due to the requirement to now sell goods as second-hand or shipping back to our suppliers for a credit. This fee is by negotiation and any special condition given to the customer MUST be observed such as bring back packaging &/or CDs/manuals for example.

Orders, Back-Orders, Pre-Orders and ETAs

1. Deposits

All deposits paid to Best Deal 4 U Computers & I.T. are deposit and part payments to enter a contract of sale as per the guidelines in the Trade Practices Act 1974, unless otherwise specified at the time of ordering.

The below 5 points detail the terms and conditions of trade we use when dealing with any order (should you request/require any exemptions based on special circumstances or agreements made with your sales representative you MUST email your sales representative regarding this within 1 business day of placing your deposit).

2. Estimated Time of Arrival (ETA)

When staff from Best Deal 4 U Computers provides an Estimated Time of Arrival (ETA) of your order, then please bear in mind that it is an estimate only (not a guarantee as the supply chain is outside our control). However we will always try our best to offer good estimates and we also endeavour to get stock to you ASAP.

If the stock as ordered is not ready to ship and there is no new ETA available within 2 business days of your previously provided ETA passing, then you can request a change to another available item (or if no other item in Australia is suitable, you can then give notice to request a refund).

Note; If we have not contacted you with a new ETA within 2 business days of your last ETA, and you wish to receive an update please email your sales consultant, and he/she will chase up a new ETA within 2 business days of receiving your email (as we have dozens of customers each week to liaise with, and you likely only have one PC/laptop order to keep track of, we humbly request the onus be on you to request information if needed – however we do endeavour to communicate any delays to our customers and provide ETAs as quickly as possible).

3. When would a restocking fee apply?

By swapping to an alternate available item there will be no restocking fee applicable (assuming goods to fill your order have not arrived and are not in transit to us) - if requesting a refund without providing us the required notice as detailed below, then there may be a restocking fee payable (as a subtraction from your deposit) of up to 10-25% of the total order value.

4. When wouldn’t a restocking fee apply?

If no ETA was available, or if the new ETA was past an immoveable date of requirement (eg, you fly overseas on 15/06 and new ETA is 18/06).

A restocking fee would usually not apply for partial order cancellations where the portion being cancelled is not in stock and is not in transit to us. For example, if a desktop PC has been built and we are waiting on the video card, then you may have the system supplied without the video card and there would be no restocking fee on the value of the video card that is being dropped from the order. Similarly, if we are waiting on the SSD to arrive for the upgrade of a laptop, then the order for the SSD may be cancelled with no restocking fee applicable on the value of the SSD and the laptop can be supplied without the upgrade.

What type of notice is required should I wish to cancel my order based on new ETA being unacceptable, or for any other reason:

A minimum of 3 business days notice of order cancellation is required in writing to be actioned - Example of dates – If you had an ETA of 15/04 and the goods were not available at that time, you could request order cancellation and list the reason you no longer require goods (perhaps you were leaving town a few days later and cannot wait for more stock to arrive), if we received your email requesting cancellation on 15/04 (say this is a Monday), then three business days starts from the Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday and assuming the goods were not available for pickup or delivery on that Friday then there would not be a restocking fee to cancel your order and your deposit would be refunded in full.

5. How much are the restocking fees?

Should a refund be requested and you have not provided us with the written notice we require as detailed above, then the following restocking fees may apply:

  • The minimum restocking fee when applicable is 10%, this would typically apply in a case where not all of the items ordered are in stock (but some are);
  • A restocking fee of 15% would typically apply if some of the items are in transit and/or work has already been done on your PC or laptop;
  • The maximum restocking fee of 25% would typically apply if all items are in stock or in transit to fill your order.

6. Cancellation Fees for Orders on Amex or Diners

A 5% fee will be payable on ALL refunds for purchases made on Amex or Diners to cover the merchant fees and paper work required under any circumstances (this is in addition to any applicable restocking fees).

BD4U In-store Notice Regarding Returns or Credit for Counter Sales

Refund policy (This text taken from Office of Fair Trading Website - click here for link)

"Please choose carefully. We do not normally give refunds if you simply change your mind or make a wrong selection. You can choose between a refund, exchange or credit where goods are faulty, wrongly described, different from a sample shown to you or don´t do what they are supposed to do."

If reason for return of goods is not warranty related issue (such as you have changed your mind and no longer require the goods), we may offer a return and offer a store credit or refund less restocking fee (this may be detailed on your invoice). If you wish to return goods please email sales@bestdeal4u.com.au prior to coming in store with your goods detailing reason of request of return in order for us to advise what options are available to you.

ALL Refunds

Customers, please note:

If a refund (with or without applicable restocking fees) is approved, it will usually be done within 2 to 5 business days unless otherwise advised (refunds are NEVER done on the same day as all refunds require directors/CFO authority which at earliest will be next business day).

Lay-buys

If you choose to purchase as a Lay-buy, you will be given an order confirmation detailing payment schedule and lay-buy conditions - order changes and cancellations may incur fees that will be detailed in this document.
